I've Decided......

This has been my mantra all week and it turns out to be an incredibly powerful statement. It came up last Saturday at WW. We were talking about how important words are. If you say "I'll try..." you pretty much won't do it. But if you say, "I decided...." it's much more positive and powerful. At the time I thought, " I don't say I'll try because I know that's a cop out," what I didn't realize is I substitute something equally as wimpy, "I'm supposed to...."

I always think about my morning workouts the night before and I would say, "I'm supposed to swim." Well, that statement gives me an out. All this week I've been saying, "I decided to swim and run in the morning." When I do that, it's a done deal. No thinking about it, no debating, I've decided. The one night I didn't use it was Wednesday. I was really tired and slipped back into old patterns, "I'm supposed to ride in the morning." Well, guess what happened??? I didn't ride.

I've been using that in a number of ways and it really, really works for me. Hubby and I usually have a little Dreyer's Slow Churned light ice cream at night. Well, our servings had grown over the last few months and I really wanted to get back to the 1/4 cup serving size I used to have. So Sunday after dinner I said, "I've decided to only have a 1/4 cup." It worked. So I've said the same thing every night that I've had ice cream and it has worked every time. It works so well hubby is now having only 1/4 cup too.

These are extremely powerful words and I've decided to keep using them.

This morning was swimming and running. I got to the pool and it was packed. I can't wait for winter so the pool empties out again :) So I decided to just do my 800m and get out and run. I was swimming slow, really slow (I thought) working on form; gliding, rolling, bilateral breathing, high elbows; basically just trying to make it all come together. So I did 800m in 19:30 - woot!!!!! I usually feel short of breath when I swim (I think it's mainly mental) but not today.

I got out of the pool and ready for my run. I decided to just run slow focusing on my perceived exertion and keeping it low. What a fabulous run. I ran into some friends and we stopped and chatted for a few minutes. It was a beautiful sunny morning and I felt like I could run forever. But I only had 1/2 an hour so I headed back.

It was a great workout this morning, I really felt strong.

One of the best swimming coaches in this area is offering a freestyle stroke clinic in July. 4 nights, 1 hour each with lecture, drills, individual instruction. I've been thinking about taking it. Well, guess what! I've decided....

Have a great day all.

That's a great swim time! Sometimes it's when we relax and focus on the stroke and breathing that the swim times come down.

Happy birthday to your daughter in a few weeks! :) And I like the DECIDE thing, too! As the great Yoda said, "Try not. Do or do not. There is no try." :) Great swim, too!

Sometimes you have to take a step back

that's what I did this week. I did not look or think about my business all week. Okay, that's not entirely true, I thought about it...
