Losing a pet really does drain the emotions. I emphatize.
Hey, I don't have a Garmin, but I have a Polar 625x which is a HRM that also tells distance covered. I say go for the Garmin - we need to spoil ourselves sometimes. I just got myself a set of expensive chain rings for the bike. :-)
Sorry to hear you lost your pet bird. Feel awful for you.
