Lazy day...

It was rainy and cloudy today making for a very lazy day. Days like this I like to lay around and read, so I did. But not the new Harry Potter, although I am curious who gets killed so please feel free to email the info. I have no plans on reading the book for the foreseeable future.

I did do my intervals this morning. I tried something new, bodyweight intervals, and boy they kicked my butt. By the time I was done I could have used a portable oxygen concentrator I was breathing so hard. I recovered nicely though.

I also got my grocery shopping done. So except for my morning run, I have no reason to leave the house tomorrow. That will be good if it's raining again. I have to make dog biscuits, do laundry, clean house, I have plenty to do here.

Well, tonight is done. I am almost ready for bed. Want to get up early and go for a long run. Have I mentioned that I love my Garmin???

Week 1 down

Well, I started this Precision Nutrition one week ago. Okay, technically I started on Monday, but I did all my weighing and measuring on Saturday, so it's been a week.

Now let's review, I don't want anyone thinking this is some weird, strange diet. It's not. It's eating natural, whole foods, but there are a few rules. Eat protein at every meal, only eat carbs after working out, don't drink your calories, blah, blah, blah. It's the way I've been trying to eat for months now. It's just more formalized and I'm not guessing at what to eat when, etc.

So I've been eating pretty crappy for a few weeks now, maybe a month. I've been eating what I should and then eating lots of desserts, drinking beer, eating fried foods. No wonder I was so tired and felt like crap.

Okay, so after 1 week I'm feeling pretty darn good. I'm down 2.5 lbs. Now I'm pretty sure this is 'real' weight. I'm pretty sure it's water weight, bloating, whatever you want to call it. But that's okay, I'd really rather not carry that around thank you. More important is the way I'm feeling. It took most of the week but my fatigue has passed. I'm not craving sweets (don't eat them and I don't want them it's that simple - duh!!). My clothes are slightly looser - 2.5 lbs is 2.5 lbs. What's really weird though is my bones are starting to stick out. My collarbone is getting really prominent. I'm feeling my hip bones big time. Interesting.

The bottom line is that this week was a success. I'm still fine tuning my program. I've spent the week trying to find things to eat that I like and that are kind of easy to eat while I'm running around working. This week I'll continue to follow the same routine and see how it goes. Next weekend I will evaluate my progress and make any necessary changes. I've very excited. I'm feeling good. I feel like I'm looking good. Things are going well.

Aches and Pains

I don't know if it's getting older or if it's being more active, but I always seem to have some sort of ache or pain. In general I just tough it out work through it (there's my Army training coming through:), I figure if it was serious I'd be in real pain.

Then, on Monday, I received this sample in the mail:
That would be Mr. Chubs on my shoulder. He needed to check it out and make sure it was okay.

So Freeze It is a pain relief gel, similar to like Icy Hot or even BenGay. Since I had a couple of aches and pains hanging around I thought I'd give it a try.

My left calf has been bothering me. Not really hurting but aching. So I busted this little package open and put some on my calf. If felt good, warm and cool, it didn't smell too bad, they all smell, let's see how it works. I could feel it penetrating and after about 5 minutes my calf felt pretty good. I was sitting at my computer and I didn't notice the smell too bad. They say the scent vanishes and it seems they were right.
Okay, time for the real test. The right side of my neck had been bothering me for a couple of days and I decided this would be a good test for this gel. I put it on and again felt it, warm and cool. I could feel it working it's way in and I could almost feel the muscles relaxing. It was nice.

Both my calf and my neck have not bothered me since I used Freeze It and that is really nice. I like the way it feels when you apply it. I think it will become part of my medicine cabinet because it really does work well.

The problem I have was the smell. When I applied it to my neck it was very close to my nose and after a few minutes it was a bit overpowering. After about 20 minutes I could hardly stand the smell anymore. I don't know if I put to much on or what. I don't know why the smell didn't vanish when it seemed to on my calf.

So that's it. If you're looking for something for all your little aches and pains, consider Freeze It.

Freaking out

that's what Bloglines is doing. Twice tonight I've looked at Bloglines and there were over 150 new entries. Yeah, I don't think so. Some blogs had 30 or 40 'new' entries. I don't know why it's freaking out like that but it's annoying, I do wish it would stop.

In other news, there is no other news. I'm still a little tired and I'm heading off to bed soon.

I'm not so tired today

I think I figured out why I was so tired the past few days. As is my wont because I am a maniac, when I started Precision Nutrition even though it was very similar to the way I was eating, I cut back on my portion sizes - a lot!! I think I cut them back too far and just plan wasn't getting enough food. Tuesday night I looked everything over very carefully and realized what I had done. Yesterday I ate more. Not a lot more, but more. 6 oz of chicken instead of 4 oz. Things like that. Yesterday I felt better, today I feel much better. I guess I have to be careful. I do workout very hard, and my job is running around the lab all day. I don't have much time for sitting on my butt, except for like now :). Although I'm trying to lose weight I need to eat enough to live my life.

This will keep me in bed.

I was really looking forward to my run this morning. I had set up my Garmin last night so I would be running against a virtual partner (how cool is that??) and I had a goal, a pace I wanted to run at. I was set.

I was in bed at a decent hour last night and I slept good - real good. The alarm goes off and I hit the snooze (this is typical). The alarm went off again 9 minutes later (why is it 9 minutes???) and I hit the snooze but then laid there preparing to get up. I was stretching a little and just waking up when all of a sudden it started pouring rain. I mean pouring. It was so loud I didn't hear the alarm when it went off again.

So yeah, I rolled over and slept a little longer. That will keep me in bed every time. So today will be my rest day. Oh well, the best laid plans.......

I'm tired.

I can not figure out why I am so tired. I'm getting plenty of sleep. I'm eating well. I'm working out. All these things would indicate I should have tons of energy. I don't!! I hate when I feel something and don't know why. If I was partying or sitting up all night I could understand being tired. But I'm not. The only thing I can put it down to is for the last couple of weeks I did eat pretty crappy, maybe my body is getting over 3 weeks of dessert :)

Also, when I change eating patterns I tend to need an adjustment period. My eating is not that different from before, but I have cut back some and I'm eating more veggies and less refined carbs. I'm probably just adjusting to healthy stuff.

Went for a run this morning and I ran 1.82 miles in 25 minutes. That's about .04 miles further and 2 minutes faster. Totally cool. Have I mentioned I love my Garmin???? Oh yeah, it was interval day, so that was done in 1 minute sprints :)

On second thought...

Maybe I'll convert this room into a home theatre and just stick in some theater seating and a big screen TV and call it a day. Don't you just want to do something crazy once in a while. I mean throw responsibility and reason to the wind and just do something nuts. A 56" plasma TV with comfy chairs, a popcorn machine, a soda fountain (that serves only water :), and unlimited movies. Sweet.

My room.

I use the 2nd bedroom in our house as an office. I have this huge desk that, while I like it, manages to collect every piece of paper in the house. It's very annoying. So I'm thinking of getting some new office furniture. My file cabinet is all rusty. I've go no where to put my printer, except on my desk. It really is quite a pain in the butt. I really need to consider something new in this room.

Monday, monday.....

It was definitely a Monday. My heart was just not in it - at all!!! I really need a vacation. 2 more weeks and I get my wish :)

So I've started the Precision Nutrition challenge. Today was good. It's not that much different than the way I was eating. I'm focusing on making sure I get a little more protein and being sure I eat every 2-3 hours. I did make some meals yesterday just to have some different things. I think part of my not sticking with my eating plan was that I was getting bored. I was eating the same thing over and over and over and over and over............ I had gotten into a food rut. Well, hopefully this will shake things up and get me back on track.

I'm getting into more natural, organic products. We are getting a Whole Foods here and I can not work. Anyway, I've been doing a lot of investigating into natural health products. I have the feeling I'm coming down with a cold and instead of turning to drugs, I went and got a cup of lemon tea. I wonder what's happening to me. Just a few years ago I would have called someone like me a hippie freak. That's my life to be a hippie freak.

I take supplements, calcium, glucosamine, etc, and am always looking for natural health supplements. Better to get natural. I just wish supplements were more regulated. But, you have to find a well known, trusted company and not buy cheap, off brand supplements. God, what is going on? Why am I on this natural health kick???

So that's it for now. I'm tired, my sinuses are a little stuffy, and I'm going to drink my tea.

I've gone to the dark side.

Apparently I know what needs to be done?? Hmmmm. Who knew!!!

You scored as Deep Space Nine (Star Trek), You have entered the dark side of the Star Trek universe. The paradise of Earth is far from you and you must survive despite having enemies on all fronts. But you wouldn't have it any other way because you thrive in conflict and will know what needs to be done to take care of those around you. Now if only the Founders would quit trying to take over the galaxy.
