A moment of gratitude

Every so often I have to stop and remember how incredibly lucky I am.  It hit me this morning - hard.  I was doing my 8 miles when it all came to me in a rush and I actually wrote this post in my head right then.  So here goes.

I am incredibly blessed for the following reasons:
  • The typical health, job and all that stuff - and I'm not rushing over it because I don't think it's that important, I do - but these are the things everyone is grateful for so let's just get that part out of the way.
  • I have the exact house that I have dreamed about for years.  Years!!!!  It is small and needs work but it is exactly perfect for us and we love it to death.
  • I have a job that I really, really love.  I really love teaching and being involved in education and all that..It's awesome
  • I live in the most beautiful place on earth.  I live at the base of the Koolau Mountains which are the most beautiful mountains ever.  I love living here and I love that the Koolaus are never the same 2 days in a row. I could make color prints of them every day and every one would be different.
  • I have the ability to  do anything I want. Today I covered 8 miles, tomorrow I may bike, I can do whatever I want whenever I want to.
I'm going to stop here because I could go on and on... I'm am, without a doubt, one of the luckiest people on earth and I need to remember that.

    8 miles

That's how far I went yesterday and I could not be happier with myself. I set out to cover the 8 miles however it went and I did it. The vast majority of it was walking but I did do a lot more running than I thought I would - so I am pleased. Today I went to strength training this morning. I am very happy with myself. Here's what's happened since Saturday:
    • Saturday:  strength training and a 4.5 mile run/walk
    • Sunday:  rest
    • Monday: strength training in the morning; circuit workout in the evening
    • Tuesday: 8 miles run/walk
    • Wednesday: strength training
That's all I'm doing today, well aside from the Wii.  I picked one up on Monday and it is silly, silly fun.  I love the bowling.  So much fun.  Anyway, that's about it for now.

Over the top - as usual....

As is typical, I went a little crazy in my workout planning.  I had these delusions of doing strength training then going for a run right after.  Huh...that didn't work out so well on Saturday maybe I should take it as a sign.  So I've revamped my ideas just a bit.  I walked over to the studio, did my strength training and walked home this morning.  This evening I'm doing the circuit training at the studio.  Tomorrow morning it's my 8 mile run. Tomorrow evening maybe nothing - I'll have to see.  I figure it's better to workout everyday rather than jamming it all in on one day and falling apart the next.  I do love the circuits though, so I'm doing those on Monday night and Friday morning. Running will be Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.  I'm going to do 8 miles each day so running 3 days a week should be more than enough.  Also, the 10k on New Years Day will be a piece of cake - I like that :)

I've decided I'm getting a Wii.  I have been watching the ads for the XBox 360 Kinect but those are almost $600.  Yikes... I've wanted a Wii for a really long time but I kept thinking that I needed to get the Wii Fitness thingee with it, which would make that around $300-$350 depending on the controllers, etc...  But I was just looking around and I have found some Wii bundles on sale for $179 and games on sale for $19... So I'm going to get a Wii... Of course, Hubby doesn't know this yet but I'm going to tell him we can buy a golf game and that should convince him.  Plus now he doesn't have to go shopping for jewelry like cubic zirconia rings. He will be very happy about that. He hates shopping, especially at Christmas time.

Right now I need to go eat some lunch.... Strength training makes me hungry.

    Yesterday

was basically a success.. I walked over to strength class...did that, and I tried to keep it light since I knew I would be running after...talked to a lady about biking next weekend - sweet!!... began my run...now after doing a whole boatload of squats and lunges my legs were a little shaky, so initially running was not an option...no problem - I walked.... for the first 2 miles, I walked... fast.... that took me to the gates of the botanical garden...at that point I knew there was no way I was going to do the 5 miles in and out of the gardens..so I made a tactical decision and turned around at the gate...and went home.  I went a total of 4.5 miles....not the 8 I was planning on but I'm happy with it...today my legs are just the tiniest bit sore...I can feel the muscles in my quads and my calves and it feels good....clearly I did a lot of work yesterday.... Tomorrow is shaping up like this:

    • strength workout in the morning
    • circuit training at night
    • botanical garden run in between
    • get insurance for my car (don't ask I accidently got an rv insurance quote instead of a car quote)
    • get a safety inspection on my car
    • register my car
as for today, doesn't look like much is going to happen. It's been raining here since 3 am and things are flooding slightly...not enough to worry about but enough to make it almost impossible to run...I already did some work on the spare room but so much of that crap is Hubby's it really takes him too....I'll probably sit and grade tests this afternoon...it would be awesome to get those done and out of the way....then I find something to do..lord knows there are tons of things I can do...

      Conversation with Hubby

So yesterday morning I presented my idea of working out at home to the Hubby. Once I presented it to him, he said he was in. I told him I h...
