Prevailing Wisdom

Do you ever wonder about the prevailing wisdom?  I mean look at some of the things that people absolutely and completely buy into without question:

  • You should eat 3 meals a day.  Really?  Do you think our ancestors, the caveman, had the convenience of eating 3 times a day?  I don't think so.  I think they ate when they could and ate a lot.
  • Or, you should eat 5-6 small meals a day.  This one kills me because it's hard for us to do imagine how hard it was for cavemen.  I don't think so.
  • You have to eat a certain amount of protein with each meal.  Again, really?  Where did the caveman get all this protein.  He had no refrigerators and therefore no way to store his kill.  He ate it and when it was gone he ate plants until he killed something else.
  • You can should only lose 1-2 lbs a week to remain healthy.  I would love to know where this came from.  Yes, continuously not eating buts a tremendous strain on your organs.  But eating healthy and working out can result in more then 1-2 lbs a week and you won't die. This rate would be hard to sustain because the more weight you lose the harder it gets to lose it.
I was reading some stuff this morning and came across some people talking about these things like it was absolute fact, written in stone, and never worked otherwise.  I think you need to find out what works for you.  If eating 5-6 meals works for you - do it. If combining protein and carbs or fat works for you - do it.  But my god, just because someone said it doesn't make it gospel.

Faced my fears

So I mentioned that I had gotten some of the cups I ordered. They are Stanley dupes and have gold plating under the powder coating, so when...
