New month, new start.

I may have mentioned how I like new beginnings, no?? Well, this one comes at the most perfect time. Rocco had his surgery yesterday, so basically that crisis is over. I had my total food meltdown last night, so basically that's over. And I've missed my last workout. Today is not only a new day, but a new month, and a new start.

I read on Flatman's blog how he plans to run everyday in February. I've decided to steal that concept. Actually, not only steal it but take it further, but wait, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I need to work on my running so I will run everyday in February. Well, that's not totally true Since I have no cartilage in my right knee, running everyday is not the brightest idea. So, I will run 4 days a week and elliptical 3 days a week. I'm excited about that. They will be mostly shorter runs of 20-30 minutes with longer 1 hour+ runs on Sunday. The elliptical workouts will be 30ish minutes. Okay, that's my February challenge to myself.

To take this further, I'm going to make March a swim everyday month and April a bike everyday month. Again, since I'll be doing it everyday they will be shorter, more focused workouts with a longer one every week. I like that.

For February I'm also switching up my swimming and weight training. I'm going to do shorter swims that are much more focused. I want to work on form and speed and each work out will have a specific, narrow focus to it.

For my weight training, I've been following basically the same program for about 6 weeks. I think it's time for a change. I have another program that I started this morning. It's shorter, more intense, more compound moves to cover more muscles.Again, shorter more focused workouts. Wow, I seem to see a theme developing here, hmmmmm.......

Unfortunately, I won't be getting a lot of biking in. Until it starts getting lighter in the morning I'll only be biking on Saturdays and some trainer work during the week while watching TV. On the bike front, I've managed to squirrel away some money for my bike. I was thinking that if they still have that 2005 model they will probably have it for another month or so. If all goes well, I will get it towards the end of March. I'm of course talking about the Kestrel.

January was a pretty darn good month workout wise. I got in all but 1 of my weight training workouts. I missed only 2 swims and 2 runs. I'm very pleased with myself but February will be even better.

My eating the past 2 weeks has not been so good. Starting today I am back on my clean eating, 5 times a day, and getting the macro nutrients right. I feel so good when I eat right and work out so I need to get back to it.

So that's it, my plan for February. I just had a thought, if I paid myself for every mile I run/elliptical this month I would definitely get my workouts in because I want that money for my bike. Hmmm..... This has possibilities, let me dwell on it a little more.

Good to hear your dog's surgery went well. And your training goals sound awesome and that bike will be yours soon enough and then you will get in all that biking and it prob. will be a so much nicer ride. I should set some goals for myself, I have been slacking and been under the weather. Have a good weekend and that bird looks cute.

Good for you, getting back on track. I know how much you want to keep at this, so like you said, a new month, a new beginnings. Isn't it great we always have that clean slate to work with every month?

I'm glad to hear Rocco's surgery went well. Why don't you rent him a couple of good movies to watch this weekend while he's recouperating? I bet he'd like Babe.
