Interesting day yesterday

I have determined that I need to change my weekend routines in order to live the kind of life I want to live. So yesterday I did that. I got up, did this, and just a side note. I do this instead of meditating because it brings me in touch with my inner self much, much better. Meditating is good, but for me this is better. Okay, onward. So I got up, did this, then did a little work. When Hubby got up, I went and worked out, showered, then walked the dog. After that I had a co-working session from 9 to 10:30 and I have to say that was awesome. It really was. The leader set a timer for 40 minutes and we all muted our mics and just worked. If we had questions, she was available in the chat, but we just worked. I got a lot of work done. Then we came back together for a few minutes and a little break, and did another 40 minutes. I really enjoyed that. It was focused work time and I knew it was only 40 minutes so I didn't let myself get distracted. It was awesome. After that I had a chir...

2-Day workweek

is weird. We had Monday and Tuesday off for Veteran's Day and so only had school Wednesday and Thursday. It's just weird to only see them 2 days. Felt like I didn't get much accomplished. But, whatever.  I have found that by compartmentalizing things are going much better - at least in my head. I don't worry, or even think, about things for my business when I'm at school because I'm focused on school. And at home I rarely think about school. This, however, may not be the great thing I think it is. I woke up Wednesday morning having no idea what I was doing in class that day. I got to school early to figure it all out. Luckily it was something very simple so I was ready. But I do need to think ahead just a bit to make sure I don't need to get things for class on the way to school. Yikes. That would be bad. Anyway, compartmentalizing is working for me.  Things are going well with the art too. I applied to Artists of the Superstitions and was accepted - yay!!!...

A small epiphany

I had one yesterday. In fact, I almost stopped in the middle of class and to write here because of it, but then decided to write at home - which I didn't, so here I am now.  I was looking through FB and saw a post by a guy who was making like a 100 things for an order. They were all the same thing and he was making them 100 times. I've seen that before, people with big, big orders to fill; 100s of cups to engrave, 1000s of tokens to make, things like that. Well, this guy yesterday said he finally realized that is not what he wants to be doing. He said it felt like a job and that is not why he got his laser or started this whole business. I've said that 1,000 times. I don't want to become a factory spitting out 100s of the same thing over and over and over and over.....that's just a freaking job. That is not what I want. I want to make things I want to make. I want to make things that are unique and different and that inspires joy and wonder and all kinds of things ...

Day 5 of a 5 day weekend

Image
is here. It has been a good weekend. It's funny how a little success in one area can inspire you to success in other areas. I've been doing a lot of things lately; making showstoppers, making mini, 3-D printing an order, etc. And some things have been working out and some have not. But, the things that are working our are inspiring me to keep trying and working on the things that aren't working out. So success in one area definitely leads to success in other areas.  One great example of that is this frame:  It's not big and it's not fancy, but I made this. I figured out how to get the mitered corners just right. I figured out how to put splines in it:  And I did it all by myself. I'm very proud of that. I'm going to attempt to frame one of my showstoppers today, we shall see how that goes.  But success leads to success. At least it makes you resilient and willing to try different things.  I have spent the weekend 3-D printing little keychain things for Chr...

It's Monday

and I don't have to go to work. Yay!!!  I do think that I could totally get into retirement. I've been keeping myself busy the last 3 days and I plan on being busy again today. So I'm beginning to think I could totally do retirement. I would add in a few things, like volunteering with animals, things like that. Anywho..... We did not go to Flagstaff yesterday. I feel somewhat bad, but not really. It was some wasted money, but eh, it's only money. I just did not feel like packing up, driving up there, staying one night and then coming home. Just did not seem worth it. Maybe over Christmas break. We didn't go to Penn & Teller on Thursday either. I'm beginning to wonder if that's a pattern I should be concerned about, or if it's just that it's the middle of the year and we are tired. Hope it's the latter.  I did get the quilt background done for the longhorn steer. I'm really liking doing the little ones. I'm still not a huge fan of the...

Gave my desk a make-over

Image
I have this stand up desk that I bought at Costco about 3 maybe 4 years ago. I 'like' it I guess. I feel like I can't get rid of it because I paid about $300 for it and Hubby will lose his mind if I said I was trashing it. But it wasn't working for me well anymore. The top is small and it would get cluttered with all kinds of things. Yes, I'm not neat and tidy. Plus I have 2 monitors and one of them is on a stand that took up a lot of the desk. Then, in an almost unrelated event, the mouse I'd been using seemed to die. It wasn't dead completely, but I had to click it two or three times every time I wanted to select something on the screen. Annoying. So I decided to buy a new mouse and keyboard (since they come together). I ended up with one in pink and it's got the big keys that make noise when you hit them, like an old school typewriter. I love it. And the mouse works every time I click the button - who knew???  So the new keyboard is larger, much larg...
