Dog Training Update

So we started Akua on training yesterday. The girl said that she doesn't use treats when she trains. I was super skeptical at first, how are you going to get them to do anything without treats? But after yesterday, I'm sold. We started on place - him sitting on his bed for an extended period of time - and threshold - him not racing out the door before me for a walk. It was amazing. He clearly started to get it. I mean really get it. Unbelievable. Then, after I thought about it, I realized it's not that earth shattering. We teach them all kinds of things without treats. They learn an enormous amount of stuff from us without ever getting a treat. So it's really not that crazy to think you can train them without treats. It's just that I think treats are easier and they give you a false sense of them having learned something, when in fact they are just looking for treats. So that was yesterday and it was good overall. One thing I like about this trainer too is that we ...

And it's Friday again

What is that saying, the days are long, the years go fast? Something like that. It's true and it gets truer the older you get. This week flew by even though each day seemed like an eternity.  Time to take a minute and complain. I have a friend at work who does nothing but talk about her money. Seriously. She has even told me that she doesn't need this paycheck. She has stocks and bonds and is trading on the stock exchange. She has a couple of retirement payments coming in. She is well off. Now I don't begrudge her the actual money, not at all. Her and her husband worked hard for it and that's good. But lord I do not want to hear about it. Seriously, that's almost all she talks about. I don't want to hear it. I'm struggling over here and all she talks about is how much money she has. Thanks, I'm good. Anyway, it's kind of annoying. This friend is very self centered though anyway. While she is nice and kind to others, all she talks about is her life a...

Today is the day

and I'm nervous I can just imagine how my friend is feeling. Today is the day she leaves. There are so many moving parts to today and it's just freaky. I'm not sure how she's handling it, probably good because there is action. Just 'watching' from the sidelines is difficult.  Anyway, there are 6 days left in school. 6. Days. Do you know how exciting that is? We have made it to the end. This is where the days get weird. I have seniors in my classes who need to take finals next week so we have to review and such early. But after the review and the seniors leave, I will still have another class. So what do I do for that class? We can continue the review, but that is a giant waste of time - it really is. So I don't know what I'm going to do. Maybe nothing. Maybe just a fun lab with no grades attached to it. I don't know.  I think though that I've reached the end of my patience. I no longer care about feelings or anything of the students. Seriously. ...

Feeling good

The last few nights we have been hitting the hot tub before bed and man, what a difference it makes. I've been sleeping so good. It's amazing. Except for last night when Hubby had a coughing fit that woke me up. But you can't have everything.  I'm working on building a new habit. I have a planner, that I really don't use much, and I have a notebook, that I really don't use much. I honestly don't like carrying my planner with me all the time, I don't like that my whole life is exposed in there. So I enjoy carrying my notebook. Also, that way I can write things down that don't necessarily go in my planner; things to remember, things I want to make, etc. They have no place in my planner really, so a notebook is a good idea. In an effort to try and build that habit, I turned to Claude, my AI friend. He gave me some tips and suggestions and one of them is to make my planner/notebook habit in the morning. I like that. Not only do I have time to do it, I c...

Time to catch up

The last few mornings I've been meditating outside. I really like it. This morning it was a little too cold. I know I'm a wuss, but it is what it is.  So Sunday we went over to some friend's house. Now this friend has been talking about leaving her husband for at least a year. But in that time, nothings been done. Then last weekend they ask us to come over, we ended up not going because Hubby got sick, and over text dropped the bombshell that it was all going down this Thursday, May 7th. There would be a POD coming to the house, some family was coming over to help pack it up, and she was leaving. So we were over there on Sunday and do you know how awkward I felt knowing what I know and knowing the husband knows nothing? Wow, it was weird. I know I wasn't acting myself and I just could not help it. I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. Found out after we left that Hubby felt the same way. I never imagined that I would feel that way, but I did. Anyway, she's moving in...
